Christmas Program

Today was the day of the big Christmas program at Ava's school where the kids all sing a few songs and stuff.  It always is super cute and the photos never do it justice but I still thought I would share some of it.  We of course always enjoy it since Ava sings the songs for weeks beforehand.  This year they sang "Away in a Manger", some song about there being no room in Bethlehem, another about chatter with the angels (probably my favorite), and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."
Walking into church with her toy "for baby Jesus." Every kid brings a toy to donate to a charity.
 And going back to class.
Oh and if you wanted to see our advent activity for the day, it was to "Make handmade gift tags."  So Ava & I used tissue paper, glitter, crayons, glue and stickers to decorate some trees.  I'll attach them to some colored paper later (as well as photo stickers) to make some cute gift tags this year.  Fun Christmas craft for us both to enjoy!

Santa!

While doing our advent activity for today ("Go out as family for ice cream"), we saw that Santa was out again so we decided to go give him a visit.  Darren had taken Ava previously but I missed it and wanted some photos.  Ava of course was excited to see Santa again.

Excitement while waiting for her turn with Santa.

And I just love this picture...pure joy!  She asked Santa for an " Angelina Ballerina set" and I think that is it this time.  Last time she wanted a Hello Kitty movie.  He talked to her for a long time, knew her name and asked if she was leaving him cookies & milk on Christmas eve.  He was great!  And free photos and short waits for Santa are awesome!

Christmas Lights!

Today's advent activity "Go see the Christmas Lights."  We took Ava to the Lakeway trail of lights thing again this year and as usual she loved it!  She is at the age where any kind of lights impress her and this one is perfect because you can run around too.

Ava & Darren posing .
Me & Ava - she hugged me so tight our eyes got squished!
Although the light display is the same size every year and usually has the same displays, they do change it up a bit each year and this year they had this really cool lighted tunnel you could walk through.
Family photo (think I was trying to hide my belly in this photo otherwise I can't explain my awkward pose)
And a little fun Texas themed lights ya'll.

Advent Calendar

This year, when putting out our advent calendar, I decided to go a different route. You see, I bought this cute advent calendar last year off etsy (b/c I finally realized that although I wanted to make my own, it just wasn't going to happen) but discovered that like many advent calendars, the boxes are tiny.  Last year, I filled it with tiny junky toys, coins and candy.  Of course, you can imagine that by day 10 last year Ava knew it usually was candy and therefore always wanted to open all of them.  Not to mention she did not need all those Hershey kisses/candy canes etc. and the toys, as I said, were just junk.
So this year's boxes were filled with activities printed on a tiny slip of paper. This has been so much fun as it gets the whole family involved and we do all sorts of fun things (the really good ones I'll highlight here on the blog).

First activity was to "Start a New Family Tradition." It gave me an excuse to finally buy the Elf of the Shelf (if you have a small child, I highly recommend this as it has been super fun).  There is a whole story about the Elf and each night he flies back to Santa only to return somewhere else in your house the next day and make sure you are being nice.  So basically it is a daily game of hide and seek with the Elf.  Oh and you get to name your elf...ours is named Arf courtesy of Ava.  Here is Arf in action (hanging out with our dancing Santa).
Another activity that Ava got really excited about was "Paint everyone's nails Christmas colors."  Look really close and you can see her nails alternate red and green. She thought this one was so cool!
Btw, I figured out how much Ava likes the advent calendar when on day 3 or so, right when she woke up, she went to find Arf and then asked if she could "pull out the calendar."  Of course, we usually wait for Darren to get home but she is always excited and ready for the activity first thing in the morning.

Christmas Crafts

We headed over to the Tilson's house tonight to do some Christmas crafts with Me-Mommy since Gabe & Lyndon were in Mexico.  Mom had a bunch of fun stuff for the girls to do including making a beaded candy cane, a clothespin Rudolph, a jingle bell necklace & decorating a foam Christmas tree ornament (all things I think I did when I was a kid).  She was making some with her kids at school and brought stuff home to share with all of us.

Ava, Me-Mommy & Lexie making the beaded candy canes (I loved that all 3 girls understood the red/white pattern and could pretty much do these themself)
Next up, Mom had baked a bunch of sugar/gingerbread cookies. This was the crowd pleaser for sure.  Not only did the girls decorate them but Darren, Mom & I also got to have fun too.  It was fun seeing the difference in what all the girls did with theirs.
 Some of the finished cookies.
Check out the A&M gingerbread man that Darren made...he made sure to leave it as a special treat for Gabe & LT.
While Mom & I cleaned up, Darren spent sometime chillin' with the girls.
And finally, all the girls snuggled up with Me-Mommy to watch the Grinch before it was time for us to leave.  Thanks Mom for all the good Christmas fun!!

Trimming the Tree

Today's Advent Activity (more to come on that) was to get out our decorations and get in the holiday spirit.  Here is Ava helping Darren bring in one of the many boxes of Christmas stuff...she was excited!!
Me, helping Ava hang an ornament up high on the tree.  My belly just popped out (like noticably) in the past week or so and already is growing fast so I am worried that once again, come 9 months and I will be HUGE. Oh well, for now, it makes a good seat for Ava don't you think? Ha!

And Ava will the finished tree!

Updating the Blog

As usual, I'm behind in updating the blog so bear with me while I do some updating over the next week or so. I need to get it up to date so that I won't fall too far behind since I am sure there will be lots of photos from the Christmas holidays.  Make sure to check out the Thanksgiving posts before this one (dated Nov 25th on I think).

New Year's Resolution it to try to stay up to date with this...we'll see if I can make that happen!!
